Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa

THE MAN YAKOWA (DANMASANIN GWONG) 1948-2012

His Excellency Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was born in Fadan Kagoma in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State on 1st December 1948. He had his primary education at St. Paul’s primary school  Fadan Kagoma and St. Pius Primary school Magamiya. He attended the famous St. Mary’s Secondary school, Fadan Kaje and St. John’s college Kaduna for his 0’ level and Higher school certificate respectively. He was admitted into Ahmadu Bello University, where he graduated with B.Sc (soc. Science) in 1972.after his graduation, he joined the Civil service of the then North central state as Administrative officer. He served in various capacities in the Civil service in including Division Officer {D.O), secretary in the military Governor’s Office, and Local Government Sole Aministrator.

 

It is of note that, His Excellency was the State Sole Administrator of the National Republican Convention (NRC) that saw the 2nd Republic Democratic experiment of 1990-1993.

He reach the pinnacle of his Career when appointed Permanent Secretary in the service of Kaduna and served in the Ministries of Health, Works and Transport before transferring to the Federal Civil Service in 1990 as Director. Between 1994-1997 he returned to serve his fatherland as Commissioner. On completion of his tenure, he returned to the federal service and was deployed as Director, Joint Services, Ministry of Defence from February 1997 to August 1998. In recognition of his hard work, diligence and dedication, he was appointed as Hon. Minister for Solid Minerals Development by General  Abubakar Abdulsalami in August 1998. Following the transition to civil rule, His Excellency served as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology before his retirement from the Federal Service on 14th June,1999.

In the political arena, he was Vice Chairman, Finance Committee Makarfi Campaign Organization 2003 and served at the National level of the PDP as Rivers State Screening Committee Chairman in 2003. He was appointed Secretary to the State Government of Kaduna State in September, 2003. His Excellency Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was appointed Deputy Governor in July 2005 under , His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi to the end of the tenure in 2007. Again in 2007, His Excellency Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo picked him as his running mate and on that ticket, they won the 2007 general elections. When fate and destiny moved His Excellency Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo GCON to the position of Vice President in may 2010, His Excellency Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was equally elevated to the position of Executive Governor.

He secured the PDP’s Gubernatorial ticket to fly the Party’s ticket in the 2011 General elections which he won and became the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

·         Constructed a block of four Classrooms at LEA Primary School, Fadan Kagoma;

·         Constructed the first borehole in Fadan Kagoma;

·         Influence the tarring of major roads in Fadan Kagoma;

·         Initiated the electrification of Fadan kagoma and environs;

·         Influence the citing of the Fadan Kagoma Primary Healthcare;

·         Contributed immensely in bringing in pipe borne water to Fadan Kagoma;

·         Influence the construction of an Earth Dam which yet to be completed by the Federal Government;

·         Initiated a Scholarship Scheme for exceptional but less privileged students;

·         Has facilitated the employment of so many graduate and non graduate;

·         Purchased forms and facilitated admission of promising students in to higher institutions of learning;

·         Contributed  financially and materially to various Clubs and Associations and serve as Patron to many of such Associations i.e.Gwong Development Association(GDA), Gwong youth Forum, Youth CAN Kaduna North Branch, Patron Catholic Youth Association of Nigeria, Kaduna Archdiocese;  

·         Contributed financially and materially to the construction of additional classrooms of the following Secondary Schools:

§  Government Secondary School, Fadan Kagoma

§  Government Secondary School, Asso

§  Government Secondary School, Kyaya

·          Has contributed immensely in the reconstruction of so many churches, renovation works and also to Christian Widows Association and many NGOs;

·         Contributed in the construction of cassava processing plant in Asso;

·         These numerous support activities and other selfless service to the community, led to his turbaning in 2008 as Dan Masanin Gwong Traditional Coucil.
